Jill Thomassen, flutist, is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory where she studied modern and baroque flute with Timothy Day. She has also participated in master classes of Trevor Wye and Christopher Krueger. She has been performing as a professional soloist and chamber musician in the Baltimore and Washington areas for the past thirty years.

Ms. Thomassen was a winner of the prestigious New York Flute Club Competition.  She has been heard in many local concerts such as The Cathedral of Mary Our Queen Concert Series, The Dickeyville Concert Series, and The Peabody Tuesday Noon Recital Series.  She has also performed at Julliard and at the annual National Flute Association Convention.

In addition to being a proud mother, Ms. Thomassen, is currently a well sought-after flute teacher, soloist, and chamber music performer. She also enjoys playing the Celtic harp.

Jill, words cannot express what it meant to us to have your music at my mother’s graveside service. The music as we gathered and at the end of the service was especially beautiful. A fitting tribute when words were not enough. All in attendance thought the music was very special. I remember your willingness to work with us on very short notice and playing samples over the phone. You could not have been more helpful or accommodating. You made a difference.

Once again you helped us on short notice driving to Pennsylvania and playing at a graveside service on a very cold, very windy January morning. Even in difficult weather conditions you managed to play beautifully. We are so very grateful.

There is something special about a graveside service that includes beautiful music. The flute provides beautiful, soothing, reflective music without becoming the focus of the service and brings the spiritual feeling of being in church while outside with nature and the seasons. —J.F.
